Cancer, what is it?

A group of many related diseases that have to do with cells is actually cancer. Let’s remember that cells are the small living units that make up a living thing, including the human body.

What happens in cancer is that all abnormal cells don´t grow normally plus they spread very quickly. But unlike the normal cells; cancer cells keep growing and dividing out of control and don´t die like they´re supposed to.

Cancer cells frequently group or cluster together to form tumors, a growing tumor can convert to a lump of cancer cells that can destroy the normal cells around the tumor and damage the body´s healthy tissues. All of the above can make someone very sick.

What you should know too is that sometimes cancer cells can break away from the cluster or its original place causing the damaged cells to travel to other areas of the body, where they can keep on going and even form new tumors, that´s how cancer spreads. The spread of a tumor to a new part of the body is called a metastasis.
